Citizens Call to Action! Save Your Hospital
The Bay Medical Center Board of Trustees has voted to sell YOUR public hospital to private, for-profit corporations. The only thing now standing in the way of the public’s loss of this fine facility and all the services it provides is a vote by the County Commission. Left totally unprotected at this time are continuing services to indigents, ambulance service and many health services for women. Nor is it clear what costs the county will have to absorb, or what happens when Sacred Heart or LHG decide to sell their investment. According to the lease, they can sell it, and even demolish our hospital if they so choose.
The hospital leaders claim they must do this rather than face bankruptcy. Yet they have never shown any proof of this. If indeed, it’s all about money, then why have they turned down an offer from another hospital corporation that would have paid them another $60 million?
This disaster in the making will be irreversible. One vote and we will lose the most valuable public asset in Bay County.
Call or email your County Commissioners. Tell them not to give up our public hospital. Tell them to reject the Sacred Heart / LHG lease/ purchase, and for them to tell the hospital board that the future health care for the citizens of Bay County is NOT FOR SALE. Ring their phones, and stuff their email boxes!
Contact information: Telephone number for all commissioners: 248-8140; Email: you may email each one of them at: http://co.bay.fl.us/bocc.php, or all of them at one time at: bocc@baycountyfl.gov
