The Bay County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance to identify a suspect captured on video breaking into a vending machine.

On January 23, 2012, deputies responded to a call at the Chevron Store at Thomas Drive and Raven Street on Panama City Beach at about 3 a.m. The clerk told deputies two white men, about 60 years of age, had entered the store at about 2 a.m. and made a purchase with about $30 in quarters. Shortly after that, the vending machine operator came by to check vending machines outside the store. He told the clerk that the newspaper vending machine outside the store was empty of cash and newspapers.

Deputies made contact with the vending machine operator who stated he discovered a total of four machines in the area missing cash and newspapers while on his route that morning. Most of the businesses were closed at the time of the theft, but one store, the Ritz Store located at 8742 Thomas Drive, had video security cameras.

Video was obtained of the Ritz Store vending machine theft. The suspect appears to be wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and jeans, has a gray beard and brown hair, and is wearing a cap. Anyone with information on this suspect is asked to call the Bay County Sheriff’s Office at 747-4700 or Crime Stoppers at 785-TIPS.
